Anna Swanwick papers, 1851-1897, n.d.

The collection contains Swanwick's obituary, two rent receipts (1857 and 1861), and twenty-eight letters. Swanwick writes three letters to Pearl Craigie (John Oliver Hobbes), ca. 1851, accepting and declining invitations, and discussing sermons and preachers they both admire. She writes eight letters to Thompson Yates, undated, enlisting his assistance for her favorite charities, including the Fine Art Gallery in South London, issuing and accepting invitations, consoling him for his mother's illness, and encouraging his work among "the masses." She writes two letters to Mrs. [Marion Edith Waugh] Holman Hunt, undated, accepting and declining invitations; to "dear sir," no date, approving of his course of lectures on Goethe's Faust. She writes to Lady [Lydia North] Paget, undated, inviting her and her husband Sir James Paget to dinner; to "dear sir," undated, about paying her rent; and to Mr. Richmond, undated, about his promise to visit. She writes three detailed letters, Cumberland Terrace, Regents Park, 20 Dec., 8 Jan., and 21 Jan. [n.y.] to an unnamed woman about Goethe's Faust which she translated. To Lady Eastlake, 16 Mar. [n.y.], she sends a volume printed by her sister in thanks for their friendship and looks forward to Eastlake's Rafael studies. To Mrs. Thompson, 6 May [n.y.], she sends her at-home hours and requests the address of Sir Mountstuart Grant Duff. To Miss Buss, 22 June, [n.y.], inviting her to dinner with Prof. and Mrs. Adams to discuss women's higher education. To Miss Lyell, 24 Dec. [1897], that she enjoyed reading Miss Horner's book on greek vases.
